Lohri is more than just a festival, especially for the people of Punjab. Punjabis are a fun-loving, sturdy, robust, energetic, enthusiastic and jovial race, and Lohri is symbolic of their love for celebrations and light-hearted flirtations and exhibition of exuberance.
Lohri ki shaam, ek mast rangeen shaam jab saare dost, pura parivaar, sabhi aas-pados ke jaan pehchaan ke log... ek saath milte hain, jama hote hain.. aag (bonfire) jalate hain....uski parikrama karte hain... usme chawal ke puffed daane daalte, popcorn ki bhent chadhate ... purane folk geet gaate .. yahi prarthna karte hain ki "Aadar aye dilather jaye" (May honor come and poverty vanish!).
Prasad main til, gajak, jaggery, peanuts, and popcorn baante... makki-di-roti aur sarson-ka-saag ka bhojan karte hain.. doston se gale milte hain.. unhe badhai dete hain ..aur fir sab milke dhol bajate... bhangra paate... gidda karte... shaam main madhosh ho jaate hain.
Lohri holds one of the special places in the hearts of north Indians. According to the Hindu calendar, Lohri falls in mid-January (13th January, 2003). The earth, farthest from the sun at this point of time, starts its journey towards the sun, thus ending the coldest month of the year, Paush, and announcing the start of the month of Magh and the auspicious period of Uttarayan - January 14 to July 14. According to the Bhagawad Gita, Lord Krishna manifests himself in his full magnificence during this time. The Hindus 'nullify' their sins by bathing in the Ganges.
Humne be chaar saal is tyohaar ko khoob manaya... aur jab kal shaam fir doston ke saath ikhatta honge.. to aap sab doston ki yaad fir dil main aaayegi... woh dost jinhone chaar saal har sukh aur sirf sukh main saath nibhaya... daro mat.. tum jaise se dosti ki...saalon isse bada dukh to kuch ho hi nahin sakta...
To doston... lohri di hardik badhaiyaan... aur bhangre pao... mast ho jaoo... lohri de is tyohaar do apne shat shat salaam...mane ke We Salute!!!
